Hurst has implemented Lower Sixth Wellbeing Champions as a way to further support pupils. This student team works alongside the the Chaplain and Deputy Head Pastoral to raise awareness of what ‘wellbeing’ is, and what steps we, as a whole school community, can take to promote wellbeing in all areas of Hurst life.
The Wellbeing Champions take part in a training day run by an external instructor from Mental Health First Aid England. In their course they learn about various mental health issues that can affect young people. They are briefed on, and discuss, ways of helping and supporting their peers. On successfully completing their course, the team are officially recognised as ‘Mental Health First Aid Champions’.
Wellbeing Day
Hurst recognises World Mental Health Day by holding a Wellbeing Day in the Sixth Form. The day is designed to engage students in activities which should rejuvenate and de-stress the students and helps them to embrace mindfulness and relaxation techniques which they may wish to use as they approach important, and sometimes stressful, stages in their educational journey and beyond.Â
