Reception
Reception class is the first year of a child’s journey through Hurst. These crucial first steps in education develop a love of learning which will last a lifetime. Reception is a time of exploration and discovery where the emphasis is very much on learning through play. The curriculum builds on pupils’ own interests and lays strong foundations in reading, writing, maths, spelling, and handwriting. Pupils follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, covering the seven key areas of learning.
Years 1 and 2
Years 1 and 2 build on the enjoyment and enthusiasm for learning. Our curriculum exceeds all the requirements of the National Curriculum, which provides pupils with an excellent foundation to build upon their literacy and knowledge when they move up to Year 3.
