This year’s Scholars’ Concert showed both the depth and breadth of our Scholars’ musical abilities, featuring brilliant performances of pieces spanning a wide variety of genres and styles.
The concert kicked off with two excellent performances from our Upper Sixth musicians, Thomas and Jemima, featuring Herbert Howells’ serenely beautiful King David, and Kurt Weill’s lilting, jazzy Speak Low.
Our GCSE Music scholars swept the audience away with a selection of Romantic and Impressionist music, featuring Georges Enesco’s extraordinary, seldom-heard Cantabile et presto, performed brilliantly on the flute by Issy.
The audience was then transfixed by Claude Debussy’s mystifying Syrinx for unaccompanied flute, played beautifully by Ella; before being transported to the world of musical theatre with a performance of Stephen Sondheim’s Children will listen from his beloved musical Into the Woods.
The concert concluded with a performance from Lower Sixth Music scholar, Jem, who had the audience tapping their feet along with Teddy Swims’ Lose Control and Bill Withers’ soulful Ain’t no Sunshine.
Congratulations to all our performers on yet another fantastic Scholars’ Concert.
