Liam Doubler is an experienced and forward-thinking sports leader with over 28 years in education and performance sport, including 18 years as a Director of Sport. Now leading the whole College sports programme at Hurstpierpoint College, Liam is passionate about creating a culture where every pupil is supported to thrive—whether they are aspiring elite athletes or discovering sport for the first time.
A cornerstone of Liam’s philosophy isÌýmentorship. He believes in developing the whole person through sport—fostering character, resilience, and leadership. He has mentored countless student-athletes within performance pathways, many of whom have gone on to play professional and international sport, including in theÌýPremiership, for theÌýBritish and Irish Lions, and at theÌýCommonwealth GamesÌýandÌýOlympic Games. He also works closely with young teachers and coaches, helping them grow in confidence, skill, and purpose.

He believes that every pupil should experience an outstanding, inclusive sports programme where ‘Development drives Performance’Ìýand where all talents are recognised and championed. He is honoured to build upon Hurst’s impressive sporting provision, creating a decision-rich, performance environment supported by purposeful practice—where students and staff can ‘learn – fail – learn’Ìýin a safe and empowering space.

Mrs Rebecca (Bex) Sutherland
Mrs SutherlandÌý³ó²¹²õ coached Hurst’s 1stÌýVII Netball team for 15 years. She joined Hurst in 2005 as a Netball Coach and went on to became Head of Netball in 2008, AssistantÌýHead of Girls’ Games in 2015 and then Assistant Director of Sport (Girls) from 2018. She is now Shield Housemistress, previously having tutored in Phoenix and Eagle House for 12 years.
She has always loved sport, with HockeyÌýand Netball as her favouriteÌýsports. She representedÌýSussex in both Netball and Hockey fromÌýan early age.ÌýHaving to chooseÌýone sport toÌýpursue, she opted for Netball and enjoyed 10 years playing with the South Region and National Premier League for Sussex Thunder.ÌýShe balanced her playing career around her career at Hurst and Mum to two girls.
Mrs Sutherland coached at Sussex Netball Club for 14Ìýyears at both regional level and in the National Premier Leaguer for Sussex Thunder. Bex is also involved in the Surrey Storm Pathway, leading the PDP Academy at Hurst and is also Head Coach for the U19 NPL squad.Ìý
