Year 2 plunged into an exciting world of adventure during our Pirate Day, taking part in a fantastic workshop led by Divergent Drama. The children explored oceans and continents through a rich variety ofÌýdrama-basedÌýactivities, using movement, storytelling, and role play to deepen their understanding of pirates and world geography. They explored andÌýidentifiedÌýkey features of different continents and discussed the wildlife found in each, showing impressive recall and curiosity.Ìý

Throughout the day, the childrenÌýdemonstratedÌýa strong knowledge of the history of piracy and could talk about several famous pirates with enthusiasm. They particularly enjoyed creating their own imaginative names for pirate ships, which set the scene for the roleplay that followed. Working brilliantly in groups, the children took on a range of roles aboard their imaginary vessels, including captain, first mate, navigator, lookout, musicians, and cook. Their teamwork and creativity shone as they brought these characters to life. They also collaborated to produce striking freeze frames ofÌýpirateÌýthemedÌýobjects—such as treasure chests—using body language and expression to communicate meaning without words.Ìý

Overall, Pirate Day was a vibrant and memorable learning experience. The children engaged wholeheartedly, strengthened their drama and teamwork skills, and deepened their understanding through imaginative play.Ìý
