We place a high value on the natural world around us and students are given opportunities to be involved in hands-on conservation and recycling projects as part of the Environmental Conservation programme.
Hurst Farm
Back in September 2013 the College started building a vegetable garden and a farm project. This has now taken shape and the Hurst Farm has a range of livestock which includes chickens and ducks. There is also a small allotment with various vegetables and herbs, an orchard and a pond.
Through our on-site farm students gain valuable knowledge about looking after the environment and animals.
Our Farm Manager assists with a programme of work for a large number of students who choose to undertake service on the farm. This includes many who are looking at careers as vets and in farm management.
Woodland Conservation
The Woodland Conservation group is ideal for聽students who are passionate about wildlife and the聽environment.聽Students are taught various techniques in the College鈥檚聽grounds before going out into the wider community to聽support local conservation projects.
Our students have carried out management tasks on the South Downs and in the grounds of local churches and schools. Through TCV, the country鈥檚 leading environmental charity, we help to manage a local public open space. By joining, students learn a traditional countryside skill such as hedge laying and become familiar with their local environment and local conservation and preservation groups.
