A group of 37 Year 7 and 8 pupils enjoyed a memorable and action-packed hockey tour to the Netherlands, combining high-quality sport, cultural experiences, and unforgettable moments both on and off the pitch.

The tour began early on Sunday morning, with pupils travelling by coach from Hurst to Utrecht. After navigating the city鈥檚 narrow streets and famous cycling culture, the group arrived safely at their centrally located hostel.听

Day two focused firmly on hockey and culture. Following breakfast, pupils took part in a training session at Kampong Hockey Club before visiting De Kuip Stadium, home of Feyenoord Rotterdam Football Club. The group then headed to Rotterdam鈥檚 iconic听Markthal, where pupils explored the vibrant indoor food market.听Later that day, the teams played their first fixtures at听Barendrecht听Hockey Club. Despite facing strong opposition and challenging weather conditions,听including heavy hail,听both the girls鈥 and boys鈥 teams showed determination, resilience, and clear improvement throughout their matches. The day concluded with socialising with the host teams over a traditional match tea before returning to the hostel.

The third day brought a change of pace with a visit to the much-anticipated听Efteling听Theme Park. Pupils made the most of the rollercoasters, rides, and attractions, enjoying a picnic lunch in the sunshine.听In the afternoon, attention returned to hockey with a second set of fixtures at Oss Hockey Club.听Additional听support from an extra coach,听one of the parents听accompanying听the tour,听helped the teams grow in confidence.听

On the final full day, pupils explored the historic city of Utrecht, enjoying free time to take in the sights and purchase souvenirs. The group then travelled to Amsterdam for an all-you-can-eat pancake cruise, a highlight for many, offering scenic river views and a variety of toppings. Following a brief detour听en听route, the tour concluded with final fixtures in Hilversum. That evening, the group celebrated with a final dinner and an awards ceremony, recognising Players of the Tour, 鈥淭op Tourists,鈥 and several light-hearted awards marking memorable moments from the week.

The tour was a tremendous success, with pupils听representing听themselves and the school superbly throughout. Alongside developing their hockey skills, they built friendships, embraced new experiences, and returned home with lasting memories of an unforgettable trip.
